Ajay Devgn Announces ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ Release Date; Sequel Set for July 25 Clash with ‘Param Sundari’
Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn has officially announced the release date of his much-anticipated film Son of Sardaar 2, now titled ‘The Return of the Sardaar’. The comedy-drama, a sequel to his 2012 hit Son of Sardaar, will hit cinemas on July 25, 2025.
Devgn unveiled the news via Instagram on Thursday, sharing a striking new poster featuring himself in a turbaned avatar. He captioned the post:
“The Return of the Sardaar #SOS2 in cinemas near you on 25th July. #SardaarIsBack #SonOfSardaar2”, tagging co-star Mrunal Thakur, Jio Studios, Devgn Films, and T-Series.
Backed by Jio Studios, Devgn Films, and T-Series, the film promises a high-octane mix of action, comedy, and Punjabi-style drama. The sequel is directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, known for his work in Punjabi cinema, and brings back the loud, fun-loving energy of the original, which starred Devgn alongside Sonakshi Sinha and Sanjay Dutt.
What’s New in the Sequel?
Joining Devgn this time is Mrunal Thakur, who plays a key role in the story. Earlier this month, she teased her involvement with a photo from the film’s set, featuring a clapboard with the title Son of Sardaar 2. Her caption read: “Scene 49, Shot 5, Take 1… Action!”
Sanjay Dutt will reprise his role as Don, while Sanjay Mishra steps in for a character originally intended for Vijay Raaz. The film will serve as both a continuation and a nostalgic return for fans of the original.

The Return of the Sardaar will release alongside Maddock Films’ ‘Param Sundari’, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Param Sundari is a cross-cultural romantic drama exploring a North-South love story.
This sets up an exciting box office clash between two big-ticket films with very different tones—The Return of the Sardaar leaning into over-the-top comedy and action, while Param Sundari explores emotional storytelling with cultural flair.
