CM Revanth Reddy Seeks Centre’s Nod for ₹24,269 Cr Hyderabad Metro Phase-2; Meets Tony Blair on ‘Telangana Rising 2047’ Vision
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar to expedite the necessary approvals for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2 project, aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing sustainable urban mobility in one of India’s fastest-growing cities.
The Chief Minister met Khattar at his residence in New Delhi on Thursday and presented a strong case for early clearances to launch the project. He explained that Metro Phase-2 spans 76.4 km and is crucial for expanding public transport infrastructure in Hyderabad, given its rapid urbanisation and growing commuter demand.
Revanth Reddy informed the Union Minister that the Telangana government is prepared to implement the ₹24,269 crore project in collaboration with the Centre, as a joint venture. The Detailed Project Report (DPR), updated in line with suggestions from the Ministry of Urban Development, has already been submitted, he added.
He further requested that permissions from other concerned departments also be cleared swiftly, keeping in mind the importance of the project for Hyderabad’s future-ready transit ecosystem.
Strategic Meeting with Tony Blair on Vision 2047
Later in the day, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also met former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who now heads the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBIGC). The two leaders discussed collaboration on the Telangana government’s long-term development roadmap titled ‘Telangana Rising 2047’, set to be unveiled on December 9, 2025, marking the government’s second anniversary.
During their hour-long discussion, the Chief Minister outlined the state’s vision to prioritize inclusive development focused on farmers, youth, women, and improved human development indicators. He introduced Blair to the innovative microplanning model that segments development planning across core urban, peri-urban, and rural zones.
Tony Blair praised the Telangana government’s focus on sustainability and its commitment to systemic transformation. He expressed particular interest in flagship initiatives such as:
- Bharat Future City
- Young India Skills University
- Young India Sports University
A Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed between the Telangana government and TBIGC to partner in both developing and implementing the Telangana Rising vision.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, MPs Raghuveer Reddy and Mallu Ravi, Advisor Jitender Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, and Coordination Secretary Gaurav Uppal.
