Telangana Minister for Transport and BC Welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar, emphasized the transformative impact of yoga on holistic health, stating that regular practice and time spent in nature can help individuals lead disease-free lives. Speaking at the International Day of Yoga event held at KBR Park, Banjara Hills on Saturday, the Minister joined hundreds in performing yoga asanas. The event was organized by the District Education Officer (DEO), District Medical & Health Officer (DMHO), and ASHA workers.
“Yoga not only promotes physical well-being but also mental peace and lifestyle balance. It is essential that people integrate yoga into their daily routine to maintain a healthy life,” Ponnam Prabhakar noted.
District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari also addressed the gathering, announcing that the government plans to provide yoga training to ASHA workers, enabling them to lead healthier lives and become wellness ambassadors in their communities.
The event witnessed participation from several dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav, MLC Addanki Dayakar, Fisheries Corporation Chairman Mettu Saikumar, GHMC Zonal Commissioner Anurag Jayanthi, Additional Collector Mukunda Reddy, Medical Health Officer Dr. Venkati, DEO Rohini, and RDOs Ramakrishna and Sairam. Medical and revenue department staff, along with numerous ASHA workers, also took part.
Meanwhile, in Haryana, renowned yoga guru Swami Ramdev Baba celebrated the day at a grand event in Kurukshetra, organized by Patanjali Yoga Peetham, the Haryana Yoga Commission, and the AYUSH Department. Highlighting the global appeal of yoga, he said, “Yoga is an integral part of Sanatana Dharma and is now practiced by people in 200 countries.” Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini and other prominent figures attended the event, underscoring the nationwide significance of Yoga Day celebrations.
