Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary B. L. Santosh on Saturday announced that the party has surpassed the 14-crore mark in primary membership, highlighting the strength and dedication of its grassroots workers.
Sharing the update on social media platform X, Santosh wrote, “Primary membership of @BJP4India has crossed the 14-crore mark. A great effort… every worker at the booth level. Though we have stopped the mega macro campaign, booth-level activity has made it possible to cross 14-crore membership.”
This milestone comes months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the party’s nationwide ‘active membership campaign’ on October 16, 2024. The event, held in the presence of BJP national president J.P. Nadda and campaign convener Vinod Tawde, marked a new phase of the BJP’s ‘Sangathan Parv Membership Campaign-2024.’
PM Modi had shared photos of the event on X, expressing pride in becoming the first active member under the campaign and laying out the roadmap for party workers to earn active status. “To qualify as an active member, a worker must register at least 50 new members within a booth or assembly segment. This qualification makes them eligible to contest elections for the Mandal Committee and other leadership roles,” the Prime Minister said.
The BJP’s ongoing membership initiative began on September 2, 2024, at the party’s central office. By October 15, it had already crossed the nine crore mark, with Uttar Pradesh alone contributing over two crore members.
With the completion of its initial phases, the campaign’s third stage focuses on consolidating and expanding the party’s active membership—emphasizing organizational strength at the grassroots level. The surge to 14 crore reflects the BJP’s ability to mobilize its cadre across the country without relying solely on large-scale promotional campaigns.
