Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, and Others Recall Over 14,000 Vehicles in South Korea Due to Component Defects
In a move to address potential safety issues, Hyundai Motor, Jaguar Land Rover Korea, and two other companies have announced a voluntary recall of more than 14,000 vehicles in South Korea, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on Wednesday.
The recall involves a total of 14,708 vehicles spanning 19 different models, including those distributed by trading firm GS Global Corp. and GM Asia-Pacific Regional Headquarters, the South Korean arm of General Motors Co. The decision follows the identification of faulty components that may pose safety risks, according to a press release cited by Yonhap News Agency. Vehicle owners are advised to check whether their vehicles are affected by visiting the official recall portal at www.car.go.kr or by calling the government helpline at 080-357-2500.
This latest recall follows a series of similar actions taken by leading automakers. In May, Kia Corporation, BMW Korea, and Hyundai voluntarily recalled over 16,000 vehicles due to various manufacturing defects. Kia’s recall of 12,949 vehicles, including the Seltos, was prompted by a high-pressure fuel pipe issue that could result in fuel leakage and increase fire risk. BMW pulled back 2,213 units of 11 models—including the 520i—because of possible battery charging failures linked to faulty installation in the 48V starter-generator. Hyundai also recalled 1,390 Elec City hydrogen fuel cell buses due to flawed hydrogen discharge port cap designs.
Earlier in April, Volvo Car Korea, Mercedes-Benz Korea, MAN Truck & Bus Korea, and other international manufacturers recalled a staggering 117,925 vehicles across 49 models. Volvo alone accounted for over 95,000 units, citing software issues in event data recorders that could affect the logging of driving information.
The South Korean government continues to monitor vehicle safety closely and urges consumers to remain vigilant by staying updated on recall information through official channels.
