Jagan Mohan Reddy and Y.S. Sharmila Pay Tributes to YSR on His 76th Birth Anniversary
Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with state Congress chief Y. S. Sharmila, paid heartfelt tributes to their father, the late Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on the occasion of his 76th birth anniversary on Tuesday.
Accompanied by their mother Y. S. Vijayamma, Jagan Mohan Reddy, his wife Y. S. Bharati, and other family members laid floral tributes at YSR’s memorial at YSR Ghat in Idupulapaya, YSR Kadapa district. Special prayers were conducted to mark the occasion, followed by a solemn moment of silence.
Leaders and members of the YSR Congress Party, including MPs, MLAs, and MLCs, also paid their respects at the memorial of the beloved leader, popularly known as YSR.
Y. S. Sharmila, now leading the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, visited the grave separately to offer her tributes. Vijayamma joined her for the occasion, and together they marked the remembrance by cutting a cake in honor of YSR. Jagan Mohan Reddy later took to X (formerly Twitter), sharing poignant images from the ceremony with the message: “Miss you Dad.”
Since 2019, when Jagan became Chief Minister, Sharmila and Jagan have observed YSR’s birth and death anniversaries separately, reflecting the political rift between the siblings.
In her social media tributes, Sharmila praised YSR’s enduring legacy, recalling his contributions as a two-time Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. “He played a pivotal role in strengthening the Congress both in the state and nationally. His people-centric governance and transformative welfare programs like Arogyasri, fee reimbursement, and Jala Yagnam have left a lasting imprint,” she wrote.
Sharmila also urged the Telangana government to fulfill the long-standing wish of YSR’s admirers by constructing a memorial in Hyderabad. She expressed hope that the current Congress leadership in the state would take the initiative, noting that she has written to senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on the matter.
Describing her father as “an embodiment of Telugu pride,” Sharmila said YSR’s tireless commitment to public welfare and his visionary leadership continue to inspire. “He believed that the prosperity of the state lay in the happiness of its farmers, and he served them until his final breath. A godsend to the poor, a true friend to farmers, and a leader whose legacy lives on through every life he touched,” she added.
