In a departure from tradition, several big-budget films are opting for Thursday releases instead of the customary Friday premieres, strategically leveraging the additional day’s advantage ahead of the weekend. This trend is becoming increasingly noticeable, with many upcoming releases in the pipeline slated for Thursday debuts.
One such highly anticipated release is the Kamal Haasan-starrer “Indian 2,” scheduled to hit screens on June 13, capitalizing on the Bakrid holiday falling on June 17 (Monday). Similarly, reports suggest that Prabhas’s next film, “Kalki 2898 AD,” is set for a June 27 release, although without the benefit of an extended weekend or holiday.
“Allu Arjun’s” Pushpa 2,” also known as “Pushpa: The Rule,” is gearing up for a worldwide release on August 15 (Thursday), strategically timed to coincide with the Independence Day weekend. Following suit, Nani’s “Saripodhaa Sanivaram” is slated for release on August 29, despite lacking a holiday or extended weekend advantage.
Even Jr. NTR’s “Devara” is poised to hit screens globally on Thursday, October 10, coinciding with the festive Dasara season.
While some films capitalize on extended weekends, others opt for Thursday releases as a strategic move, irrespective of holiday schedules. This evolving trend may soon become commonplace within the Indian film industry.
