Hyderabad: Tensions rise between current and former Telangana Chief Ministers, A Revanth Reddy and K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), as the Osmania University (OU) grapples with closure notices for hostels and mess facilities due to water and electricity shortages.
The discord stemmed from a notice issued by the chief warden (hostels & messes) at the university, citing water and electricity scarcity, and announcing the closure of facilities from May 1 to May 31. Students voiced their concerns, prompting protests and demands for clarification from university authorities.
In response, KCR criticized the Congress-led state government, asserting discrepancies in their claims regarding power, irrigation, and water supply in Telangana. He highlighted the university’s notice as evidence of existing crises in these areas.
Contrary to the notice, the Southern Power Distribution Company denied any power shortage, emphasizing continuous and uninterrupted supply to the university campus. The Registrar promptly issued a show-cause notice to the chief warden, refuting claims of power scarcity.
Revanth Reddy, in turn, likened KCR to Joseph Goebbels, drawing parallels with the Nazi propaganda minister, and cited a similar closure notice issued during the BRS regime in 2023. He underscored historical instances of hostel closures due to summer vacations, challenging KCR’s narrative regarding the university’s shutdown.
