In response to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s interim bail granted by the Supreme Court until June 1 for campaigning in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva emphasized that this legal development does not imply his exoneration in the alleged multi-crore liquor scam. Sachdeva criticized the Aam Aadmi Party for insinuating Kejriwal’s acquittal, highlighting that interim bail is a procedural measure and does not validate innocence.

Sachdeva further criticized AAP for what he deemed as misleading the citizens of Delhi, asserting that the party lacks substantive local issues for the elections. He contended that attempts to create a deceptive narrative surrounding Kejriwal’s release from jail will not sway voters.

With confidence in the upcoming elections, Sachdeva expressed optimism that BJP candidates will secure victory in all seven seats. He pointed out that the conditions imposed by the court during bail, restricting Kejriwal from accessing the Chief Minister’s office or the Delhi Secretariat, signify the absence of exoneration. According to Sachdeva, this underscores that the Supreme Court’s decision merely grants interim bail for electoral purposes.

Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, BJP’s candidate for the South Delhi constituency and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, reiterated Kejriwal’s status as an accused in the multi-crore liquor scam, emphasizing his eventual return to incarceration on June 2.

The Supreme Court, represented by justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, stipulated Kejriwal’s return to jail on June 2 in connection to a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam. Notably, June 1 marks the culmination of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections, with vote counting scheduled for June 4. Kejriwal’s arrest in March stemmed from allegations of corruption and money laundering in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government’s now-defunct excise policy for 2021-22.
