New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) strong electoral performance in the ongoing polls, expressing confidence in a significant victory in the Southern states.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, the Home Minister emphasized the BJP’s momentum towards securing substantial wins in four Southern states: Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

‘Mission South’ stands as a pivotal focus for the BJP this election cycle, with a target set to surpass the ‘400 mark’, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The four states collectively contribute 109 seats to the Lok Sabha, with the BJP securing 29 seats in the 2019 elections. While the BJP failed to secure seats in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh previously, it anticipates notable gains in both states this time, alongside aiming to establish a presence in Kerala.

Addressing various issues including Opposition allegations regarding constitutional amendments and reservations, Shah urged against the propagation of false narratives, emphasizing the need to uphold democratic principles without misleading voters.

“Prime Minister Modi was elected with a clear mandate twice. If the BJP government intended to amend the Constitution or revoke reservations, who could have hindered us?” Shah questioned, calling out Rahul Gandhi for what he perceived as attempts to misguide the nation.

Shah underscored the BJP government’s achievements, citing the abrogation of Article 370, the abolition of Triple Talaq, the construction of the Ram Mandir, surgical strikes, Chandrayaan’s launch, substantial savings during the COVID-19 pandemic, and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for citizens.

Regarding the recent stock market decline, Shah dismissed any correlation with the elections, attributing market stability to a robust government. He expressed confidence in a market resurgence post-June 4, anticipating a resounding victory for the BJP-led alliance.
