New Delhi: SIT Formed to Investigate Swati Maliwal Assault Case

New Delhi: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to investigate the allegations made by AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal against former personal secretary to the Delhi Chief Minister, Bibhav Kumar. The formation of the SIT comes a week after Maliwal accused Kumar of assaulting her, police officials reported.

The SIT is led by North Delhi’s Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anjitha Chepyala and includes three Inspector-rank officers, among them an officer from the Civil Lines Police Station, where the case was initially registered.

The team is tasked with conducting a thorough investigation and submitting its findings to senior officials.

As part of the investigation, Delhi Police escorted Bibhav Kumar to the drawing room of Chief Minister Kejriwal’s residence on Monday to reconstruct the events of May 13, the day of the alleged assault. The police documented Kumar’s answers, mapped the sequence of events, and took photographs of the crime scene, officials said.

Sources from the Delhi Police indicated that with the crime scene now reconstructed, the narratives provided by both Kumar and Maliwal are being closely analyzed.

In addition to visiting Bibhav Kumar’s residence, the police are in the process of retrieving his mobile data, which they believe may provide new leads. They are also investigating claims by Maliwal that the CCTV footage from the incident has been tampered with. The DVR containing Kejriwal’s CCTV footage was seized on Sunday evening, and efforts are underway to recover any missing portions.

Earlier, on Saturday, Bibhav Kumar was arrested in connection with the alleged assault. He was presented before the Tis Hazari Court, which remanded him to police custody for five days.

In her complaint, Maliwal alleged that Kumar “slapped” her “at least seven to eight times” while she “continued screaming” and “brutally dragged” her, “kicking” her in the “chest, stomach, and pelvis area.” Kumar lodged a counter-complaint on Friday, accusing Maliwal of unauthorized entry into the Chief Minister’s Civil Lines residence and of verbally abusing him.
