New Delhi: Neuralink Receives FDA Approval for Second Brain Chip Implant
Neuralink, the brain-computer interface company led by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has reportedly obtained approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to implant its brain chip in a second individual.
The approval follows the emotional journey detailed by the first recipient, Noland Armagh, in the US.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal on Monday, the latest chip for the second recipient includes enhancements such as embedding some of the device’s ultrathin wires deeper into the brain.
Neither Musk nor Neuralink has officially commented on the development yet.
The Neuralink chip is designed to potentially restore full body control for individuals suffering from paralysis. Following a successful brain-chip implant with Armagh, Neuralink initiated the process for a second participant to receive the chip implant.
Elon Musk has suggested that the technology could eventually connect severed nerve signals to a secondary Neuralink in the spine, thereby enabling complete body control restoration.
Armagh, with the chip in his brain, has reportedly achieved “telepathic control of a computer or phone just by thinking.” The trials conducted by Neuralink aim to evaluate the initial functionality of their wireless brain-computer interface in enabling individuals with paralysis to control external devices using their thoughts.
