Officials from the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) seized ‘ITZOCAP-200 Capsules’ (Itraconazole Capsules 200 mg) on Tuesday following a raid at a medical shop in Sangareddy.
The product ‘ITZOCAP-200 Capsules’, which contains Itraconazole Capsules 200 mg and is marketed under this brand name, falls under price control regulations as per the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), under the Government of India, has fixed a ‘Ceiling Price’ for this product.
According to DCA officials, the seized batch of ‘ITZOCAP-200 Capsules’ (Batch No.: MPC23023A), manufactured by Micro Organics Pharmaceuticals in Himachal Pradesh, displays a Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of Rs. 299 for 10 capsules, equating to Rs. 29.9 per capsule. This pricing exceeds the stipulated Ceiling Price under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.
The Central Government, based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), has set the Ceiling Price for ‘Itraconazole Capsules 200 mg’ at Rs. 22.12 per capsule. Therefore, the MRP, inclusive of 12% GST, should not exceed Rs. 24.77 per capsule.
Authorities have identified an overpricing of Rs. 51.30 for 10 capsules of the product, constituting a violation of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.
N. Ravikiran Reddy, Drugs Inspector in Sangareddy, and M. Chandrasekhar, Drugs Inspector in Patancheru, led the raid operation. Further investigations are underway, and legal action will be pursued against all implicated parties in accordance with the law.
