Kejriwal Condemns Targeting of Parents, Alleges Modi Crossed Limits

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, during a virtual press conference on Thursday, May 23, asserted that his elderly and infirm parents were being deliberately targeted to undermine him, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of exceeding all boundaries.

Addressing the media as the AAP national convener, Kejriwal directed a message to Prime Minister Modi, stating, “I have a message and appeal for PM Modi. You have arrested my MLAs, yet I remained steadfast. You detained my minister, but I did not yield. When you arrested me, I faced harassment in custody.”

“However, today you have gone too far. To break my resolve, you have singled out my elderly and ailing parents. My mother is grappling with multiple health issues; on the day of my arrest (March 21), she had just returned from the hospital. My father, at 85 years old, struggles with hearing impairments. Are my parents guilty? Why subject them to such harassment? God will not forgive you,” asserted Kejriwal, who himself was arrested in connection with a Delhi excise policy-related money laundering case.

Earlier reports indicated that Delhi Police might defer visiting Kejriwal’s residence to question his parents regarding the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal at the chief minister’s residence on May 13.

On Wednesday, Kejriwal had announced the police’s intention to question his elderly and ailing parents the following day.

Bibhav Kumar, a close aide to Chief Minister Kejriwal, has been arrested in connection with the assault case.

Responding to the alleged assault incident involving Maliwal, Kejriwal expressed his expectation for a fair investigation and emphasized the importance of justice being served.

In an interview with PTI, Kejriwal noted that the matter is currently “sub-judice,” acknowledging that his comments could impact ongoing proceedings.

Reacting to his statement, Maliwal remarked, “Irony has truly died many deaths,” adding that Kejriwal has finally called for a free and impartial investigation into the matter.
