Hyderabad Ravaged by Cyclonic Storm Remal: 13 Fatalities Reported Amidst Heavy Rains and Thunderstorms
Severe weather conditions struck several parts of Telangana on Sunday night, resulting in the tragic loss of 13 lives in various incidents across the state. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, influenced by the severe cyclonic storm Remal in the Bay of Bengal, caused widespread devastation.
Nagarkurnool district recorded seven fatalities, with four deaths reported from Hyderabad and two from Medak. The adverse weather conditions, characterized by strong gales, caused significant damage, including uprooted trees, collapsed structures, and disruptions to electricity and communication networks.
In one tragic incident at Tandoor village, Nagarkurnool district, four individuals lost their lives when an under-construction poultry shed collapsed. Among the deceased were Mallesh (38) and his daughter Anusha (12), along with construction workers Chennamma (38) and Ramudu (36). Additionally, severe lightning claimed two lives in the same district.
Further casualties occurred when a tree toppled onto a motorcycle in Shamirpet, Hyderabad, claiming the lives of Dhananjay (44) and Nagireddy Rami Reddy (56). In Hafeezpet, Hyderabad, Mohammed Rasheed (45) and Mohammed Samad (3) tragically lost their lives when bricks from a neighboring house roof fell on them due to strong gales.
The adverse weather conditions also affected districts such as Mahabubnagar, Jogulamba-Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Yadadri-Bhongir, Sangareddy, and Vikarabad, disrupting power supply and causing structural damage across the region.
