Kolkata: Amit Malviya, Chief of the BJP’s Information Technology Cell and co-in-charge of the party’s West Bengal unit, is preparing to pursue legal action against Santanu Sinha, an RSS associate, following Sinha’s defamatory social media comments alleging Malviya’s involvement in misconduct.
Santanu Sinha, who has familial ties with BJP’s former national secretary Rahul Sinha, received a legal notice from Malviya’s legal counsel on June 8. The notice demands a public apology and the removal of the defamatory social media post within three days. Failure to comply will result in both civil and criminal proceedings against Sinha.
Sources indicate that the deadline for compliance expires on Tuesday, after which legal action will commence if Sinha does not adhere to the terms outlined in the notice issued on June 8.
According to the legal notice, the slanderous social media post, which garnered attention from prominent media outlets, particularly in Delhi, has adversely affected Malviya’s reputation outside West Bengal.
“The defamatory nature of your post has significantly tarnished my client’s public image. Your allegations against my client, a respected member of society, have caused considerable mental distress and deliberately aimed to mislead the public while damaging his reputation,” the legal notice stated.
The opposition parties, including Congress and Trinamool Congress, have prominently featured Sinha’s social media post, originally published on May 7 on Facebook, during their press briefings on this matter.
