Nagpur: Mohan Bhagwat, Chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), voiced concerns on Monday regarding the situation in Manipur, a northeastern state gripped by unrest since May 3 of last year.
In his first remarks on the issue, Bhagwat emphasized the urgent need for peace in Manipur, asserting, “Violence must cease, with priority given to restoring calm.” He made these remarks while addressing a group of RSS trainees in Nagpur.
Bhagwat’s comments on Manipur’s situation come shortly after the Lok Sabha election results were announced last week.
He also expressed dismay over the misuse of modern technology to propagate false narratives during the recent elections, without directly naming the opposition. He alluded to debates surrounding constitutional changes and reservation policies for backward caste communities.
“We have made progress in various sectors including economy, defence, sports, culture, and technology, yet challenges remain,” Bhagwat noted.
Commenting on the election campaign, Bhagwat lamented the lack of decorum and restraint, calling it unfortunate. He stressed the importance of maintaining “maryada” (dignity) even amidst electoral competition.
While hoping for a harmonious parliamentary session, Bhagwat underscored the role of healthy competition without it degenerating into conflict.
Reflecting on the role of Parliament, Bhagwat emphasized its dual responsibility to consider diverse perspectives on every issue.
Praising the government’s achievements over the past decade in economic growth, science, technology, and education, Bhagwat acknowledged India’s resilience in overcoming various challenges.
With the elections concluded, Bhagwat urged a shift in focus towards addressing current national challenges through collective deliberation.
Encouraging traditional values, Bhagwat urged families across India to spend quality time together, particularly during shared meals at least once a week.
