New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Convened Emergency Meeting on Kuwait Fire Incident

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an emergency meeting with the Ministry of External Affairs team and other concerned officials on Wednesday evening to address the tragic fire incident in Kuwait, which resulted in over 40 fatalities and injuries to more than 30 Indian workers.

The External Affairs team is scheduled to depart for Kuwait on Thursday to assess the situation and visit the injured who are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

“We stand with the victims of the Kuwait fire incident and express our deepest sympathy,” stated Union Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, in an interview with ANI. “Following our meeting with Prime Minister Modi, we are traveling to Kuwait tomorrow to evaluate the situation and check on those admitted to the hospital.”

Prime Minister Modi convened the meeting in the national capital to review the aftermath of the fire incident, which claimed over 40 lives and injured 30 Indian workers.

Singh further reported that the identification of the deceased is ongoing and that the injured are receiving appropriate medical care.

“We have received reports confirming that the injured are being well cared for. The identification process of the deceased is currently underway,” he added.

Singh also noted that the majority of the affected Indian workers hail from Kerala and other parts of South India.

“The majority of the victims are from Kerala and other southern regions of India. We will remain in Kuwait for as long as necessary,” he affirmed.

The fire broke out early Wednesday in a building housing workers in the city of Mangaf in southern Kuwait.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the victims of the fire incident in Kuwait City, extending his thoughts and prayers to their families and loved ones.

He assured that the Indian embassy in Kuwait is closely monitoring the situation and collaborating with local authorities to provide further assistance.

The Indian ambassador to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika, visited Al-Adan Hospital earlier in the day, where over 30 Indian workers are receiving treatment.

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad al-Yousuf al-Sabah visited the site of the incident and ordered the arrest of the building’s owner, according to Al Jazeera.
