Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, often speaks about his connection with India. Recently, in a podcast hosted by Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, Gates elaborated on this relationship, highlighting the significant contributions of Indian talent to Microsoft’s success. The discussion also delved into other pertinent topics, such as artificial intelligence (AI).

In the inaugural episode of Kamath’s podcast series, Gates shared, “I have a profound connection with India. We hired skilled graduates from India for Microsoft and brought them to Seattle. Eventually, we gave back by establishing development centers in India.” He noted that Microsoft now has development centers in four locations across India, employing 25,000 people. “Many of the remarkable individuals who contributed to Microsoft’s success are from India,” Gates added.

Gates emphasized the pivotal role of Satya Nadella, an Indian-origin executive, who is now the CEO of Microsoft. “The relationship with India that began at the start of my digital career has now become essential,” he remarked. However, Gates acknowledged that India still grapples with poverty.

On the topic of artificial intelligence, Gates dismissed concerns that AI would threaten software engineering jobs. He expressed his belief that AI will not only support key sectors but also boost overall productivity.
