New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday criticized the Narendra Modi government for alleged irregularities in national competitive exams, including NEET-UG, accusing it of surrendering the entire education system to “mafia” and “corruption”.

Her statement came after the Union education ministry formed a committee to review the operations of the National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting these exams, and to propose reforms.

On Saturday, the government removed Subodh Singh, Director General of NTA, and transferred the investigation into irregularities in the NEET-UG medical entrance exam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In a Hindi-language post on social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi asserted that the NEET-UG question paper had been “leaked,” and exams such as NEET-PG, UGC-NET, and CSIR-NET were “cancelled.”

“Today, under BJP’s rule, our major exams are in such a state. The entire education system has been entrusted to corrupt and mafia elements,” she stated.

She criticized the government for politicizing education and alleged mismanagement, asserting that paper leaks, exam cancellations, and administrative failures had become synonymous with the current education system.

Priyanka Gandhi further accused the BJP government of obstructing youth opportunities, stating, “Today, the BJP government stands as the biggest obstacle in the path of our youth’s future. Competent youth are wasting their time fighting BJP’s corruption while Modi ji remains a silent spectator.”

Recently, the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-PG for postgraduate medical courses was postponed to June 23 as a precautionary measure amidst integrity concerns in competitive exams, including NEET-UG.

The NTA also postponed the June edition of CSIR-NET and abruptly cancelled UGC-NET, citing logistical challenges and compromised exam integrity, respectively. The NEET controversy has escalated to the Supreme Court.
