Mumbai: Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) announced on Monday the appointment of Gaurav Banerjee as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective on or before August 26 pending regulatory approvals.

Banerjee will succeed NP Singh, who has stepped down after a tenure of 25 years and will transition into the role of Non-Executive Chairman to facilitate the handover until the end of the fiscal year, according to a company statement.

“Under Singh’s exceptional leadership, SPNI has achieved significant success and innovation in the entertainment industry. I am eager to lead our talented teams as we explore new avenues in original programming, enhance viewer experiences, expand our distribution network across India, and drive substantial revenue growth,” said Banerjee.

Previously, Banerjee held key positions including Head of Content for Hindi Entertainment and Disney+ Hotstar, and Business Head for Star Bharat, Hindi and English movies, kids and infotainment, and regional (East).

Singh expressed his commitment to supporting Banerjee and the team, stating, “I look forward to assisting Gaurav and our skilled team as we advance in content creation, audience engagement, and digital media initiatives.”

Earlier this year, SPNI and Zee Entertainment Enterprises terminated their merger agreement. In January, Sony Group, the Japanese parent company now known as Culver Max Entertainment, and Bangla Entertainment Pvt Ltd (BEPL) terminated the $10 billion merger deal with Zee Entertainment.
