Hyderabad: Following nearly two decades of anticipation, a total of 18,942 government teachers in Telangana have been granted long-awaited promotions. Among them, 17,072 secondary grade teachers (SGTs) have been elevated to school assistants, while 1,870 school assistants have been promoted to headmasters.
The promotion and transfer process for teachers commenced on June 8 and has now been concluded, with the exception of transfers for SGTs. The Telangana government has exempted teachers within three years of retirement from mandatory transfers. Furthermore, positions for Pandit and Physical Education Teacher (PET) have been upgraded as part of this initiative.
The School Education Department resumed the promotion process following its suspension due to previous legal challenges. Under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the current administration opted to proceed with promotions irrespective of the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET), aiming to expedite the process amidst ongoing legal proceedings.
To address vacancies resulting from these promotions and transfers, the Telangana government has announced plans to convene the District Selection Committee (DSC) for filling the vacant positions.
