Telangana Government Aims to Empower Women SHGs, Boost Green Cover
Hyderabad: The Telangana government has unveiled an ambitious plan to elevate 25,000 village organisations comprising women self-help groups (SHGs) to millionaires status by providing each organisation financial assistance of Rs one crore.
Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, in a directive issued on Tuesday, instructed district Collectors to diligently execute the action plan formulated under the guidance of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The objective is to achieve the milestone of making SHG women millionaires within the next five years, with a policy decision document set to be released imminently to enroll all eligible women into SHGs.
Commending the SHGs for their timely stitching of school uniforms, Chief Secretary Kumari urged Collectors to expedite the production of the second set of uniforms without delay. She further mandated the establishment of Indira canteens across all districts to bolster community welfare initiatives.
Under the state’s Vanamahotsavam programme, launched by the Chief Minister in Warangal, a target has been set to plant 20.02 crore saplings this season. Emphasizing the availability of ample saplings and recent favorable weather conditions, Kumari stressed the need for meticulous planning and execution to ensure the successful planting and survival of quality saplings across all districts.
District officials were urged to adopt measures ensuring comprehensive land coverage with saplings and to conduct regular inspections of plantation sites alongside field-level officials, with a focus on geo-tagging for effective monitoring.
Highlighting agricultural achievements, Kumari noted that paddy cultivation has expanded to 50 lakh acres compared to 44 lakh acres last year. She assured the availability of adequate urea and fertilizers in all mandals, stressing the importance of daily monitoring and distribution oversight by district Collectors.
Concurrently, farmer conferences are slated across the state’s nine erstwhile districts, with efforts underway to maximize farmer participation and engagement.
The comprehensive initiatives underscore Telangana’s commitment to empowering women through economic upliftment and environmental sustainability, marking a significant stride towards inclusive growth and community development.
