Delhi High Court Sets July 15 for Hearing ED’s Plea Against Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail in Money Laundering Case
New Delhi, July 10, 2024 (DH News): The Delhi High Court has scheduled July 15 for the hearing of the Enforcement Directorate’s plea challenging the bail granted to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise scam.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, presiding over the matter, was informed by the ED’s counsel that they received Kejriwal’s reply to their petition late Tuesday night, necessitating time to prepare a rejoinder.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, emphasized the urgency of the case and proposed fixing a specific time for the hearing.
In response, Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, appearing for the ED, cited the late receipt of Kejriwal’s reply and requested time to review it before filing a rejoinder.
The court acknowledged the ED’s right to respond and granted time accordingly, scheduling the next hearing for July 15.
Kejriwal had been granted bail by a trial court on June 20, a decision contested by the ED the following day, labeling the trial court’s order as “perverse” and “wrong-sided.”
The high court subsequently imposed an interim stay on Kejriwal’s bail and directed him to respond to the ED’s allegations.
Kejriwal faces charges related to irregularities in the excise policy, which was investigated following allegations of corruption in its formulation and execution.
