A.R. Rahman Adds Mahindra XEV 9e to His Collection, Composes Sound Design for the EV
Renowned music composer A.R. Rahman has welcomed a new addition to his collection of automobiles—the Mahindra XEV 9e, an electric vehicle that the maestro calls his “current favourite.” The Oscar-winning artist shared a photo on Instagram alongside the sleek new car, expressing his admiration for the Indian-manufactured EV.
“Got my current favourite Indian EV car Mahindra XEV 9e…,” Rahman captioned the post, delighting fans with the reveal.
In a unique twist, Rahman also revealed that he was creatively involved in the car’s development—specifically, its sound design. “We designed the sound for this stylish Indian car… (also paid for this one),” he noted, clarifying that he purchased the car himself, dispelling any assumptions of a brand partnership or gift.
Launch of “Jinguchaa” from Thug Life
Meanwhile, Rahman continues to make waves in the music industry. The celebrated composer recently unveiled the first single from the much-anticipated film Thug Life, titled “Jinguchaa.” The grand launch took place at Chennai’s Kalaivanar Arangam, in the presence of cinematic legends Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam.
Southern film stars Silambarasan TR (Simbu), Trisha Krishnan, Joju George, and Ashok Selvan were also present at the musical celebration, underscoring the excitement surrounding the project.
Set against the backdrop of a traditional wedding, the vibrant track Jinguchaa features Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR. The song marks a special creative moment as Kamal Haasan has penned the Tamil lyrics himself—his first lyrical contribution to a single.
Vocals for the track are delivered by Vaishali Samant, Shakthisree Gopalan, and Adithya RK, while the composition continues Rahman’s signature blend of innovation and cultural richness.
Thug Life and Global Promotions

As part of its global outreach, the production team announced the Thug Life Festival in Sydney, scheduled for May 23, 2025. The event will include a live performance by A.R. Rahman and is being organized in association with Just Grow Productions.
The film’s full audio launch is slated for May 16, ahead of its theatrical release on June 5, 2025.
