The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has officially constituted the Disciplinary Action Committee for the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), marking a key organizational development within the state unit.
AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge approved the formation of the committee, which will be chaired by Lingamshetty Eswara Rao. The panel comprises six members: Amanchi Krishna Mohan, Shaik Mastan Vali, Merajothu Surya Nayak, Udatha Venkata Rao Yadav, Syed Javeed Anwar, and Arigela Aruna Kumari. The committee will be responsible for maintaining party discipline and addressing internal grievances in the Andhra Pradesh unit.
Meanwhile, APCC president Y.S. Sharmila launched a scathing critique of the ruling NDA government in Andhra Pradesh, calling its first year in power a “distortion of the public mandate.” In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Sharmila accused the Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition of squandering valuable time under the guise of reconstruction while failing to fulfill key election promises.
“They made grand announcements, including the ‘Super Six’ promises, but those have now been abandoned,” Sharmila wrote. “Instead of progress, the people are burdened with rising electricity tariffs, and public welfare schemes are being neglected due to so-called fund shortages.”
She further alleged that the state government remained silent on critical issues such as the Special Category Status promised under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, and the reduction in height of the Polavaram project, which she called a betrayal by both the Centre and the state. Highlighting employment concerns, Sharmila criticized the government for failing to revive the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, citing the termination of 4,000 employees as a glaring failure. She also condemned the coalition for backing the Waqf Amendment Act, alleging that it harmed Muslim community interests.
“Today is not a celebration of public mandate, but a day of betrayal for Andhra Pradesh,” she said, directly accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan of breaking promises and ignoring the people’s welfare.
In a parting shot, Sharmila targeted her brother and former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, alluding to his political record with a loaded remark: “Everyone in the state knows who holds the patent on backstabbing.” This combination of internal organizational changes and vocal opposition signals a more assertive stance by the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh ahead of future political challenges.
