Amit Shah Criticizes Opposition Remarks on North-South Divide, Asserts Unity of India
Hyderabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized leaders of opposition parties for their remarks on the “north-south” divide in India, labelling them as “objectionable” during an interview with ANI.
Responding to a query about KT Rama Rao’s statement on regional differences, Shah remarked, “That is why they are sitting at home now.”
He emphasized that India cannot be divided and expressed confidence in the BJP emerging as the largest party in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka after the upcoming Lok Sabha poll results.
Referring to a senior Congress leader’s statement on dividing north and south India, Shah stated, “The Congress party has not distanced itself from this divisive statement.”
Regarding KTR’s comments on regional disparities, Shah reiterated the unity of India and criticized the narrative of regional separation.
In a previous interview, KTR had remarked, “North India is a different country altogether,” highlighting differences in issues and perspectives between regions. He emphasized the higher per capita income in Telangana compared to northern states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
KTR also underscored the southern states’ advancements in infrastructure, education, literacy, and healthcare compared to states in the Hindi-speaking belt.
