Amaravati Capital Development to Accelerate with Rs 8,821 Crore Approved for Key Infrastructure Projects
The development of Andhra Pradesh’s capital city is set to gain momentum as the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has approved infrastructure works worth Rs 8,821.44 crore. The decision was made during a CRDA meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, with a focus on the construction of vital road networks within Amaravati.
Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD), P. Narayana, briefed the media following the meeting, outlining the allocation of funds. Of the total Rs 8,821.44 crore, Rs 3,807 crore has been earmarked for the construction of roads in areas where land was acquired under the land pooling scheme. Trunk roads, essential for connecting different regions within the capital, will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 4,521 crore. Additionally, Rs 492 crore will be spent on building bungalows for the state’s Ministers and High Court judges.
The CRDA had previously approved projects worth Rs 11,471 crore. With Tuesday’s approvals, the total value of cleared works now stands at Rs 20,292.46 crore, signaling significant progress in the capital city’s development.
Layouts for areas covering 236 km, including villages like Nelapadu, Rayapudi, Ananthavaram, and Dondapadu, have been approved, while plans for 97.5 km of trunk roads have also been cleared. These projects are expected to lay the groundwork for Amaravati’s urban infrastructure.
Minister Narayana also highlighted the tender process for major works conducted between 2014 and 2019, which amounted to Rs 41,000 crore. While Rs 5,000 crore worth of works were completed, delays during this period led to an increase in construction costs by 25 to 28 percent. The cost of building construction has risen by 35 to 55 percent, largely due to the gap in progress. He further emphasized that if construction had continued as planned, costs would not have escalated by 45 percent.
The Minister assured that the process of calling for tenders for the newly approved works will begin by December 15 and is expected to be completed by the end of the month. However, due to ongoing legal cases involving the designers from Singapore, the Chief Minister’s approval is required to re-engage them for the projects.
As the development of Amaravati progresses, the Andhra Pradesh government remains committed to ensuring that the capital city’s infrastructure and amenities meet the growing demands of the state’s population.
