In a landmark initiative to transform school-community engagement, Andhra Pradesh is set to host the country’s largest-ever Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) on July 10, with a staggering 2.28 crore participants expected across 61,135 educational institutions, including government, aided, unaided schools, and junior colleges.

Dubbed Mega PTM 2.0, this initiative is spearheaded by the Department of School Education and endorsed at the highest level of the state leadership. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Education Minister Nara Lokesh will participate in person at a flagship event in Puttaparthy, signaling the government’s strong commitment to educational transformation.

Lokesh described the initiative as a “movement for reform, resolution, and radical inclusion”, emphasizing that stakeholder participation is essential for any systemic progress. The aim is to position Andhra Pradesh’s education model as a national benchmark through transparent, community-led collaboration.

Historic Scale and Inclusive Approach

The first edition of the Mega PTM, held on December 7, 2024, laid the foundation for this massive outreach. That event saw participation from 25.46 lakh parents, 27,395 alumni, 22,200 donors, and 36,918 elected public representatives at 44,956 schools.

Building on that success, Mega PTM 2.0 now includes private institutions as well, reflecting a vision of unified educational engagement. The expected turnout includes:

  • 1,49,92,456 parents
  • 74,96,228 students
  • 3,32,770 teachers
  • Donors, alumni, and other stakeholders

A Platform for Partnership

The PTM aims to foster collective accountability in education by creating a platform where parents, teachers, and school communities work together to support children’s learning.

Key activities include:

  • Presentation of Holistic Progress Cards offering a 360-degree view of each student’s academic, behavioural, and social development
  • Public meetings where headmasters discuss school performance, infrastructure needs, and action plans
  • Fun activities, games, and storytelling sessions to enhance parent-school bonding
  • Recognition of success stories from students and schools across the state

Special Initiatives

This year’s PTM will also feature unique engagement strategies such as:

  • “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” – a tree-planting campaign in tribute to mothers, with students receiving Green Passports to monitor growth
  • Positive parenting sessions and family photo booths to encourage emotional connection and positive reinforcement at home
  • Student registration and sapling tracking through the LEAP App

Nationwide First

This is the first time in India that a Parent-Teacher Meeting will be held simultaneously across all schools, government and private alike. The government sees this as a step toward realizing the vision outlined in the Right to Education Act (2009) and the National Education Policy (2020) — encouraging holistic, inclusive, and accountable learning ecosystems.

Top education officials including Kona Sasidhar (Secretary, School Education) and Vijay Rama Raju V. (Director, School Education) are closely overseeing preparations via video conferences to ensure smooth execution.

Final Word

Mega PTM 2.0 is not just an administrative exercise — it’s a statewide educational movement that aims to instill a culture of shared responsibility, transparency, and inclusive progress in the school system. By bringing families into the fold as active partners, Andhra Pradesh is attempting to redefine educational governance at scale.
