In the world of Telugu cinema, the saying “Better late than never” often holds true for its top stars. However, fans eagerly demand, “Just tell us when it’s coming out!” The mere hint of a release date from their favorite actors generates an excitement that’s palpable, renewing their enthusiasm and boosting box office prospects. While some heroes announce release dates right from the film’s launch, others build suspense during the filming stage. Currently, several star-studded Telugu films are nearing completion, sparking fervent discussions about their release dates.
Traditionally, the Telugu film industry has maintained a well-planned release calendar, especially for its leading stars. However, the post-COVID era has disrupted these schedules. With the rise of Pan-India films, meticulous attention is being paid to production quality, while delays in OTT and satellite rights agreements further push back release dates. Many Telugu films in the final stages of shooting have yet to announce their release dates, leaving fans in suspense.
Two years ago, Ram Charan wowed audiences with “RRR” and “Acharya.” Since then, he has been immersed in filming the Pan-India project “Game Changer” under Shankar’s direction. Initially set for an early 2023 release, delays have pushed it back, with the final stages still unclear. Meanwhile, NTR’s “Devara” has shifted its release from Dussehra to late September.
Pawan Kalyan’s “Oji,” originally slated for September 27, is also likely to be postponed due to his political commitments and unresolved OTT and satellite rights. Conversely, the team behind “Hari Hara Veeramallu” is determined to release their film this year, aiming for a two-part release with Pawan needing just 20 more days of shooting for the first part.
Ravi Teja has already delighted fans with “Eagle” this year and is now working on “Mr. Bachchan” with Harish Shankar. Although the film’s talkie part is complete and songs are being shot, the release date remains undecided, pending finalization of OTT and satellite deals.
Young stars are also part of this release date mystery. Ram Pothineni’s “Double Smart,” directed by Puri Jagannath and a sequel to “Ismart Shankar,” is wrapping up but has yet to confirm a release date, potentially eyeing August. Similarly, Varun Tej’s period drama “Matka,” directed by Karuna Kumar, is expected to hit the box office in December if everything goes as planned.
International collaborations are also catching attention. Vikram’s “Thangalan,” a period action drama directed by P. Ranjith, has completed filming but awaits a release date, with August being a likely target. Additionally, Siva’s socio-fantasy action film starring Surya is another highly anticipated project, keeping cinephiles on the edge of their seats.
