Andhra Pradesh Expediting Bharat Net-2 Project to Ensure Broadband Connectivity for All Panchayats by March 2025
A review meeting on the Bharat Net-2 project, funded by Digital India, was conducted on Tuesday at the BSNL headquarters in Vijayawada. The meeting was attended by Andhra Pradesh FiberNet Managing Director K. Dinesh Kumar, along with officials from the Digital India Fund.
K. Dinesh Kumar shared an update on the project’s progress, reassuring Digital India Fund representatives that broadband services would be extended to all gram panchayats in the state by March 2025. He highlighted that efforts to expedite the work are already underway to meet this ambitious deadline.
As part of the Bharat Net scheme, Andhra Pradesh has already connected 15,000 panchayats through AP FiberNet. By March next year, an additional 11,254 panchayats will be provided with broadband services. Notably, Andhra Pradesh is the only state in India currently implementing broadband connectivity for all panchayats under the Bharat Net-2 scheme, marking a significant step towards achieving digital inclusion.
Digital India Fund’s Deputy Director General, Sanjay Kumar, commended the state’s progress, emphasizing the importance of completing the project within the stipulated timeline. He assured full cooperation from the central authorities to facilitate the successful and timely completion of the initiative. The meeting was also attended by Digital India Fund Director Harikrishnan and other key officials.
The Bharat Net-2 project is a key initiative under the Digital India campaign, aiming to provide high-speed internet connectivity to rural areas, enhancing access to digital services and enabling inclusive development across the nation.
