Andhra Pradesh Government Issues Directive to Refrain from New Year Celebrations Amid National Mourning
The Andhra Pradesh government has issued a directive instructing officials to forgo any official New Year celebrations today in observance of the week-long national mourning period following the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. This mourning period has been declared by the central government.
An official circular from the General Administration Department has instructed district collectors and superintendents of police (SPs) to treat the day as a regular working day. While routine administrative tasks, including meetings with officials, are allowed to continue, the circular specifically prohibited celebratory activities such as cake-cutting and similar events.
The government emphasized that until the mourning period concludes, no official events, meet-and-greet programs, or celebratory gatherings should take place in line with the central government’s instructions. Officials were also advised to consult the central government circular or refer to the Blue Book for further clarification on the protocols during this period.
