The YSR Congress government’s liquor policy faced widespread criticism, primarily due to concerns over the proliferation of fake and contaminated liquor, coupled with a strict cash-only enforcement at liquor stores across Andhra Pradesh.
Under the previous administration, nearly all liquor outlets prominently displayed signs stating “digital payments not accepted.” Opposition parties alleged that this cash-centric approach enabled substantial unaccounted revenue generation through untracked liquor sales.
Following the recent change in government leadership, the TDP+ alliance has swiftly implemented a significant policy shift at liquor stores in AP. In stark contrast to the previous regime, new boards now prominently feature “No cash. Only digital payments,” reflecting a commitment to transparency and accountability in liquor sales and transactions.
In addition to promoting digital transactions, Chandrababu Naidu’s administration aims to restore the quality of liquor, addressing concerns over the proliferation of counterfeit alcohol that led to tragic fatalities during the previous government’s tenure.
