Andhra Pradesh to Launch WhatsApp Governance Services: A Step Toward Digital Governance
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu recently conducted a review meeting at the Secretariat regarding the state government’s upcoming WhatsApp-based governance services. The services, set to be launched on January 30 by Information Technology and Education Minister Nara Lokesh, aim to revolutionize public service delivery by utilizing the widely popular messaging platform.
In the first phase, the state government will roll out 161 different services across various departments, including Endowments, Energy, APSRTC, Revenue, Anna Canteens, CM Relief Fund, and Municipal Administration. This initiative is a significant step forward, as Andhra Pradesh becomes the first state in India to implement WhatsApp-based governance.
During the meeting, senior officials briefed Chief Minister Naidu on how citizens will be able to access these services easily through WhatsApp, eliminating the need for physical visits to government offices. Naidu highlighted the importance of ensuring data security, urging authorities to bolster cybersecurity measures to safeguard citizens’ information.
The state government had signed an agreement with Meta on October 22, 2024, to facilitate the seamless delivery of services via WhatsApp. The second phase of the initiative will include additional services, further strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to leveraging digital technology for efficient governance and enhanced public service accessibility.
This move positions Andhra Pradesh as a leader in digital governance, with the potential to streamline administrative processes and improve citizen engagement.
