New Delhi: A recent report from Counterpoint Research indicates a 19.9% decline in Apple’s smartphone sales in China during the first quarter (Q1) of 2024.
The decline in Apple’s sales is attributed to Huawei’s resurgence in the premium segment. Ivan Lam, Senior Research Analyst at Counterpoint Research, commented, “Apple’s sales were subdued during the quarter as Huawei’s comeback has directly impacted Apple in the premium segment. Additionally, the replacement demand for Apple has been slightly subdued compared to previous years.”
Senior Analyst Mengmeng Zhang highlighted the intensifying competition in the market, stating that the first quarter of this year was the most competitive to date. She noted that only three percentage points separated the top six players in terms of market share. “Chinese OEMs, with their cost-effective offerings, have capitalized on the surge in sales in the low-end segment as migrant workers opt for more affordable, budget smartphones when returning home for the holidays,” Zhang added.
The researchers also expressed optimism about a potential recovery for iPhone sales, noting a slow but steady improvement from week to week. Ivan Lam suggested that the introduction of new color options and aggressive sales initiatives in the second quarter (Q2)
