Apple Intelligence Expands to India: A New Era of Privacy-Focused AI Features
Apple has officially launched its personal intelligence system, Apple Intelligence, to users in India. This move comes as part of the latest updates to iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4. With these updates, users across India now have access to a variety of new and improved features aimed at enhancing productivity, creativity, and user experience, all while maintaining the company’s strong commitment to privacy.
Apple Intelligence is designed to offer helpful and relevant intelligence, enabling users to rewrite, proofread, and summarize text with advanced Writing Tools, while also providing smart response options through Smart Reply. The update includes language support for India, localized English for Singapore and India, and an expanded selection of other languages such as French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (simplified).
One of the standout features introduced with Apple Intelligence is its integration of ChatGPT into Siri and Writing Tools, allowing users to access AI-powered assistance without having to switch between apps. This new feature facilitates quicker and more efficient task completion, enabling users to benefit from ChatGPT’s capabilities directly through Apple’s platform.
Enhanced Language and Writing Tools
Writing Tools are at the heart of the Apple Intelligence experience. These tools allow users to refine their language by rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text in various applications, including Mail, Messages, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps. Users can now rewrite their text in multiple versions with different tones—be it professional, concise, or friendly—ensuring that their messages suit the audience and purpose. Proofreading capabilities check for grammar, word choice, and sentence structure, offering suggestions and explanations for edits. Additionally, the summarization tool helps users condense information into digestible formats, such as paragraphs, bulleted points, or tables.
For those who need specific changes to their text, the “Describe Your Change” option allows them to detail their request, and Apple Intelligence will generate the adjustments accordingly.
Photos and Visual Creativity
Apple has significantly improved the Photos app, making it smarter and more intuitive. The Natural Language Search feature enables users to search for photos and videos just by describing them in plain language. The Memories feature has also been enhanced, enabling users to create personalized movies by typing a description. Apple Intelligence will then select relevant photos and videos, craft a storyline, and arrange the content into a cohesive narrative.
Another exciting feature is Image Playground, which allows users to create unique images based on their descriptions. Users can design themes, costumes, and scenes, or even generate images in the likeness of friends or family members using photos from their library. This experience is integrated into apps like Messages, Freeform, and Keynote, and it’s available as a standalone app for even more creative freedom.
Enhanced Privacy and On-Device Processing
Apple’s commitment to privacy is a central aspect of Apple Intelligence. The system utilizes on-device processing, meaning that many of the models powering Apple Intelligence run entirely on the device, ensuring that users’ data is kept private. For requests that require access to more advanced models, Apple’s Private Cloud Compute extends the privacy and security of iPhones into the cloud, offering a seamless and secure experience.
“Apple Intelligence marks an extraordinary step forward for privacy in AI. It starts with on-device processing, ensuring that much of the intelligence remains private, with secure access to larger models via the cloud,” said Apple in its statement.
Prioritization and Staying in the Moment
Apple Intelligence is also designed to help users stay focused and manage their notifications. The updated notification summaries allow users to see key details at a glance, right from the Lock Screen. This is particularly useful when managing group chats or when users want to prioritize urgent notifications.
