Apple has announced the appointment of Sabih Khan, an Indian-origin executive with nearly three decades of experience, as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Khan will succeed Jeff Williams, who is stepping down from the role this month and is set to retire later this year after over 27 years with the company.
The leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment for Apple, as the tech giant navigates slowing iPhone sales, rising global competition, and shifting trade dynamics, including tariff challenges.
Jeff Williams, widely credited with shaping Apple’s supply chain, launching the Apple Watch, and spearheading the company’s health initiatives, will continue to oversee Apple’s design and health teams until his retirement. Following his departure, Apple’s design team will report directly to CEO Tim Cook.
“Jeff has been a vital part of Apple’s leadership, helping to guide the company through some of its most transformative moments,” said Cook. “His legacy includes one of the most advanced supply chains in the world and a deep commitment to innovation.”
Sabih Khan, who joined Apple in 2019 as Senior Vice President of Operations, has played a central role in managing the company’s global supply chain, driving advanced manufacturing technologies, and leading efforts to increase production in the United States. He has also been instrumental in Apple’s environmental initiatives, helping reduce its carbon footprint by more than 60 percent.
“Sabih is a world-class leader and strategist,” said Tim Cook. “He has helped build Apple’s supply chain into a global benchmark and is driving our progress in sustainability and resilience. I am confident he will bring the same dedication and vision to his new role as COO.” As COO, Khan will report directly to Tim Cook and take on additional responsibilities, including oversight of AppleCare.
His appointment comes as Apple continues to expand its manufacturing footprint in India, aiming to reduce dependency on Chinese production and mitigate the impact of geopolitical and trade tensions.
Khan holds degrees in Economics and Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
