In a significant infrastructure push for Andhra Pradesh, the Union Cabinet has approved the construction of the four-lane Badvel-Nellore highway corridor, a ₹3,653.10 crore project that promises to transform regional connectivity and accelerate industrial growth in the state.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the green signal, calling it a pivotal step toward building a more connected and economically vibrant Andhra Pradesh.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Naidu stated, “This project marks a crucial milestone in our journey toward comprehensive state development. It enhances connectivity, empowers our youth, and strengthens our resolve to build a prosperous future.”

Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan echoed this sentiment, praising both the Prime Minister and Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for their support. He emphasized the strategic significance of the highway in connecting Krishnapatnam Port, reducing travel distance by nearly 34 km and shaving an hour off current commute times. “This corridor lays a strong foundation for our SwarnaAndhra 2047 vision and aligns perfectly with the national goal of Viksit Bharat 2047,” said Kalyan.

The 108.13 km highway, to be constructed on the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) model, will link Gopavaram village in YSR Kadapa district to the Krishnapatnam Port Junction in SPSR Nellore district, via National Highway 67. It is expected to ease logistics flow and serve as a crucial link between three major industrial corridors:

  • Kopparthy Node on the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC)
  • Orvakal Node on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC)
  • Krishnapatnam Node on the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC)

The project is poised to enhance the country’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI), reduce fuel consumption, cut vehicle operating costs, and contribute to lowering carbon emissions—key metrics in building a greener, more efficient transport ecosystem.

As Andhra Pradesh positions itself as a strategic hub in India’s industrial map, infrastructure projects like the Badvel-Nellore Corridor signal the state’s readiness to play a leading role in the country’s economic transformation.
