Andhra Pradesh Government to Implement Free Bus Travel for Women Starting This Sankranti
The Andhra Pradesh government is moving forward with its election promise of providing free bus travel for women, a key component of the “Super Six” welfare initiatives championed by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. In a recent announcement, Gannavaram MLA Yarlagadda Venkata Rao revealed that the scheme will be rolled out from the upcoming Sankranti festival.
This initiative aims to enhance convenience for women while traveling on APSRTC buses, marking a significant step towards providing free transportation for female commuters. To accommodate the expected surge in passengers, APSRTC plans to purchase additional buses, with proposals already submitted to the Chief Minister for approval.
In an effort to address the potential impact on auto drivers, the government is also working on a policy to ensure they do not incur financial losses as a result of the new scheme. Relevant guidelines are currently being developed to ensure a smooth implementation of the policy. This initiative reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to improving public transportation and supporting women’s welfare across the state.
