Arvind Kejriwal Alleges BJP’s Plot to Arrest Atishi in ‘Fake Case’ Ahead of Delhi Assembly Elections
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to have Delhi Chief Minister Atishi arrested in a “fake” case. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Kejriwal, accompanied by Atishi, claimed that the central investigative agencies were under orders from the BJP to target her with a fabricated case.
“We learned from reliable sources that a meeting took place, and the BJP has directed investigative agencies to arrest Atishi in a fabricated case,” Kejriwal stated. He alleged that the BJP was attempting to derail AAP’s campaigning efforts for the upcoming assembly elections by distracting them with this issue.
Kejriwal specifically pointed to the transport department, suggesting that a “fake case” was being prepared against Atishi in connection with the free bus rides for women scheme. “I will not allow the free bus ride scheme for women to stop, no matter what happens,” Kejriwal affirmed. He emphasized his commitment to the scheme, reiterating his unwavering support for it.
The AAP Chief also expressed concerns that the BJP was alarmed by AAP’s recent welfare initiatives, including the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana (a scheme offering financial aid to women) and the Sanjeevani Yojana (free healthcare for the elderly). Kejriwal alleged that these initiatives had rattled the BJP, prompting them to act in a bid to tarnish AAP’s image ahead of the polls.
In a separate development, the Delhi government’s Women and Child Development and Health departments issued public notices distancing themselves from the ruling AAP’s promised schemes. These notices warned people not to provide personal details for the registration of “non-existent” schemes and cautioned that any collection of such information by private individuals or political parties was fraudulent.
Atishi, who was also present at the press conference, reacted strongly to these notices. She assured that strict action would be taken against the Women and Child Development Department officers responsible for issuing the public notice against the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana.
The unfolding political developments suggest a volatile pre-election period in Delhi, with accusations flying between the AAP and BJP, each party seeking to dominate the narrative ahead of the crucial assembly elections.
