AIMIM President Owaisi Accuses MoS Bandi Sanjay Kumar of Encouraging Islamophobia
Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi, President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), criticized Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar on September 20, alleging that his remarks on madrasas are fostering Islamophobia in India. Owaisi’s comments came in response to Kumar’s accusations that certain madrasas are “fostering terrorism” and posing a threat to national security.
Taking to X, Owaisi condemned Kumar’s sweeping statements, stating, “This person is the MoS Home and makes a general sweeping statement against madrasas; it shows the Honourable Minister’s mindset.” He emphasized the need for all Indians to denounce such “hateful statements,” asserting that they contribute to an atmosphere of fear and division.
Kumar stirred controversy during the inauguration of a girls’ hostel in Jammikunta, Karimnagar district, where he alleged that some madrasas are teaching dangerous skills, claiming they train students to use AK-47 rifles with broomsticks. He criticized the Telangana government for funding these institutions, suggesting they promote extremism without providing evidence for his allegations.
Additionally, Kumar voiced concerns over the lack of financial support for Shishumandir schools, which he claimed promote Indian Sanatana culture and traditions. He expressed disappointment at the state government for not addressing vacancies in teaching and sanitation positions within public schools, labeling the situation as “regrettable” and pointing out the absence of a dedicated education minister.
Kumar’s statements have ignited a wave of criticism and raised concerns about the potential for increased communal tensions in the region, reflecting ongoing debates around education, religion, and national security in India.
