Asaduddin Owaisi Pays Tribute to Former PM Manmohan Singh, Calls His Demise a Significant Loss for India

Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi, president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Member of Parliament for Hyderabad, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The AIMIM leader described the loss as a significant one for the nation and shared heartfelt condolences with Singh’s family and loved ones.

In his tribute, Owaisi recalled the remarkable journey of Dr. Manmohan Singh, highlighting his rise from a partition refugee to one of India’s most distinguished economists. Owaisi remarked, “Truly saddened to hear of Dr. Manmohan Singh’s demise. A partition refugee who rose to become the RBI Governor, Finance Minister, and Prime Minister. His story is a remarkable one.” He further noted that Singh was a unique leader who made sincere efforts to uplift India’s marginalized communities, including minorities and backward classes, throughout his tenure.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, known as the architect of India’s 1991 economic reforms, passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday night at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. He is remembered for his contributions to India’s economic transformation, particularly his role in liberalizing the economy, abolishing the Licence Raj, and introducing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

Singh’s tenure as Finance Minister under P.V. Narasimha Rao in 1991 marked a pivotal moment in India’s economic history, steering the country out of a financial crisis and setting the stage for decades of growth. His legacy continues to resonate across the political and economic landscape of the nation.

Owaisi, along with other national and international leaders, paid tribute to Dr. Singh, acknowledging his immense contribution to India’s development and the indelible mark he left on the country’s political and economic reforms.

Dr. Manmohan Singh is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and three daughters. His passing has left the nation in mourning, with leaders across party lines remembering his integrity, vision, and leadership.
