ASEEM Urges Telangana CM to Prioritize Smart Ration Cards Over Digital Family Card
Hyderabad: The Association for Socio Economic Empowerment of the Marginalised (ASEEM) has called on Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to rethink the government’s plan to implement a “Digital Family Card” and instead advocate for the issuance of “Smart Ration Cards.” ASEEM emphasizes that ration cards hold legal significance and play a crucial role in citizen welfare.
In a letter to the chief minister, social activist and ASEEM honorary secretary SQ Masood highlighted that ration cards have historically served as reliable documents for accessing various welfare benefits, containing essential information that enables government agencies to accurately identify potential beneficiaries.
ASEEM reminded the government that both state and central authorities have previously conducted a de-duplication process to ensure the authenticity of existing ration card holders. The organization pointed out that these ration cards, with their unique numbers, are already linked to multiple databases at both levels of government.
The letter criticized the previous BRS administration for failing to issue permanent “supply cards” or “ration cards,” which forced beneficiaries to depend on an online printed database to claim their entitlements at fair-price shops each month.
“There is growing distress among the populace due to the lack of ration cards, and prompt action in this regard will greatly alleviate their concerns,” the letter stated.
