Ashrita Vemuganti Reflects on Typecasting Post-‘Baahubali’
Actress Ashrita Vemuganti, renowned for her role in Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, recently shared insights into her experiences with typecasting in the Telugu film industry. At 27, she portrayed a significantly older character, a decision influenced by her plus-size physique, which she believes facilitated her portrayal of mature roles.
Despite her youth, Ashrita found herself repeatedly cast in similar mature roles, a trend she attributes to her physical appearance. This typecasting led to frustration, as she observed that actors older than her were often cast in younger roles within the same films.
Ashrita acknowledged the industry’s tendency to encourage actors to embrace diverse roles, which sometimes led her to accept parts she might have otherwise declined. Nevertheless, she expressed gratitude for the recognition she received through her performances in films like MCA, Krack, Dear Comrade, Yatra, and Animal, which followed her debut in Baahubali.
Her journey underscores the complexities of typecasting in the film industry and the challenges faced by actors in breaking away from established molds.
