IPL 2025 Postponed Amid Rising Tensions; BCCI Assures Season Will Resume
With rising tensions between India and Pakistan creating an atmosphere of uncertainty, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to temporarily postpone the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. The announcement came following concerns over national security and logistical complications during the crucial playoff phase of the tournament.
BCCI officials, including former India captain and senior cricket administrator Sourav Ganguly, addressed the situation, emphasizing that the decision was made in the interest of public safety and the integrity of the game.
“In light of the current war-like environment in the region, we have chosen to pause the tournament temporarily,” Ganguly stated. “Matches scheduled in key cities like Dharamshala, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Jaipur will be rescheduled. We are committed to resuming IPL 2025 in the summer and completing the full season.”
He added that while the timing is unfortunate, player safety and national priorities must come first.
Sanjay Sharma, a member of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, confirmed ongoing discussions with national authorities to determine the best course forward. “We are constantly in touch with central security agencies and the government. Every decision is being made with caution and coordination.”
While this unexpected break may disappoint fans, the BCCI has reassured stakeholders that all efforts are underway to ensure a smooth resumption once the situation stabilizes.
