BCCI Unveils India’s Squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made a significant announcement on Tuesday, revealing India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The prestigious tournament is scheduled to be hosted in the West Indies and USA, commencing on June 1.
Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Indian team is poised for the challenge, with Hardik Pandya appointed as his deputy.
In a strategic move, India has reinforced their squad with two wicket-keepers, namely Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson. The inclusion of star batter Virat Kohli, who has been exhibiting stellar performances in the ongoing IPL 2024, further bolsters the team’s batting lineup.
Rishabh Pant’s return to the national team marks a significant comeback after approximately 16 months, following a car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in Uttarakhand in 2022. The squad boasts a formidable spin attack, with the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal. Notably, Chahal secures his maiden spot in the T20 World Cup team.
India’s pace battery, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, receives additional firepower with the presence of Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj. Sanju Samson earns his spot in the 15-member squad, while selectors decided against including wicket-keeper batsmen KL Rahul and Rinku Singh.
Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan have been designated as reserved players.
India will commence their World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5, 2024, at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. This will be followed by a highly anticipated clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9, 2024, at the same venue. Subsequently, India will face off against the USA and Canada on June 12 and 15, respectively.
Placed in Group A of the tournament alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and co-hosts USA, India is geared up for an exciting journey. The team’s campaign commences on June 5 against Ireland at the newly-constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, followed by a pivotal encounter against Pakistan, setting the stage for an enthralling T20 World Cup showdown.
