Biden Administration Prepares for Potential Iranian Attack on Israel
Washington: The Biden administration is reportedly preparing for a possible Iranian attack on Israel in the coming days, following the recent killing of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. According to three American sources cited by Axios, the anticipated Iranian retaliation could mirror the pattern of the April 13 attack but on a potentially larger scale, possibly involving Lebanese Hezbollah.
The administration is concerned that mobilizing the same regional and international coalition that supported Israel in April may prove more challenging this time around. President Joe Biden, speaking at Andrews Air Base, expressed serious concern over the escalating tensions and acknowledged that the killing of Haniyeh complicates efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza with Hamas.
In a recent phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden emphasized the need for progress towards a ceasefire. Meanwhile, Ismail Haniyeh’s body has arrived in Doha from Iran and is scheduled to be buried in Lusail, Qatar, following a funeral prayer at Qatar’s national mosque.
