New Delhi: The BJP criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday, May 21, accusing it of engaging in “character assassination” of Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal instead of taking action against Bibhav Kumar, who is alleged to have assaulted her.
During a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi questioned Kejriwal as to why no action had been initiated against Kumar despite AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh acknowledging Maliwal’s mistreatment in a recent press briefing.
Delhi Police arrested Kumar, an aide to Kejriwal, on Saturday following Maliwal’s accusation of assault on May 13 at the Delhi Chief Minister’s official residence.
“Instead of addressing the alleged misbehavior towards a woman MP, AAP is engaged in her character assassination,” Trivedi asserted.
The BJP leader also criticized Kejriwal for AAP’s allegations implicating BJP in the incident, questioning, “Has any inquiry been initiated into the incident? If not, on what basis are conclusions being drawn?”
On Monday, Maliwal accused Delhi government ministers of spreading falsehoods about her and threatened legal action against them.
In a statement on X platform, the AAP MP refuted claims by AAP leaders that her complaint against Kumar was influenced by BJP due to an alleged corruption case against her.
