BJP Alleges Widespread Corruption in Congress Leadership Over Land Transactions
The BJP has leveled serious allegations of corruption against the top leadership of the Congress party, asserting that they are implicated in dubious land transactions. BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi called for the resignation of Congress leaders on moral grounds following recent revelations.
The controversy erupted after a trust associated with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s family retracted its request for a five-acre civic amenity site in Bengaluru, initially intended for a Multi-Skill Development Centre. This decision by Rahul Kharge, who leads the trust, came shortly after the wife of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Parvathi, returned 14 sites to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority amid a Lokayukta police investigation into allegations against Siddaramaiah and his relatives.
Trivedi claimed these actions suggest an implicit acknowledgment of wrongdoing, driven by adverse reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and ongoing legal challenges. He criticized the Congress for its shift from its historical roots of land charity associated with figures like Mahatma Gandhi to being accused of land grabbing under the influence of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.
The BJP spokesperson further noted that both Gandhis are implicated in the National Herald case, which involves allegations of acquiring properties at significantly undervalued rates. He also highlighted similar corruption claims against various Congress leaders, including former chief ministers Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel, and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Trivedi concluded by questioning whether those who returned land should resign due to the moral implications of their actions, sarcastically labeling Rahul Gandhi’s initiatives as resembling a “land mafia’s shop.” The allegations have intensified the ongoing political discourse as the Congress prepares for upcoming electoral challenges.
