Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay, strongly opposed the demolition of homes belonging to the poor under the pretext of the HYDRA project. Speaking at the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ event organized by the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation on Monday, Sanjay pledged to safeguard people’s property, even at the risk of personal safety.
He addressed the media, criticizing the Telangana state government, particularly the Congress and BRS (Bharatiya Rashtriya Samiti), for their alleged corruption. He claimed that public funds, amounting to Rs. 1.5 lakh crore, were being misused in various development projects. According to him, the Kaleshwaram project alone has burdened the state with massive debt, and there is now a struggle to pay salaries to government employees.
Sanjay accused the government of attempting to distract people with the HYDRA initiative, which he described as a ploy to cover up other issues. He expressed concern over the speed and lack of fairness in the demolition of poor families’ homes, questioning the ethics of such actions. “How is it reasonable to demolish the homes of the underprivileged within an hour, while ignoring illegal farmhouses?” he asked, stating that the public is against these actions.
He also alleged that HYDRA was a tool to facilitate financial exploitation, where large sums of money collected from companies were being funneled to Delhi. Sanjay drew comparisons between the ruling Congress and BRS parties, labeling them as family dynasties. He cited the example of the Tamil Nadu government, where the Chief Minister’s son was appointed Deputy CM, as a continuation of family-based politics. Sanjay emphasized that the BJP opposes such hereditary rule and called on voters to reject these parties in the upcoming local elections.
Later, Sanjay took part in religious proceedings, offering a garland at the Mahalakshmi Temple in Karimnagar as part of his Bhavani Deeksha.
